ABOUT WNYAA

The Western New York Appaloosa Association
Celebrates 43 years in 2017

The Western New York Appaloosa Association received its ApHC charter in 1974. Fred and Jane Kimmel, of Brockport, New York, started the association with the help of Bruce Burton, Carl Kieber, Bob Stocking, John Terry and Terry Angelo to name a few of the first board members.

The Western New York Appaloosa Association was one of the first clubs to add money to a halter futurity, adding $1000.00. Breeding and promoting the Appaloosa horse has always been our goal. The beauty and versatility of the breed has kept members breeding and showing.

In 1983 WNYAA continued to support the breeding efforts with the creation of the Western New York Appaloosa Association Stallion Service Auction and Futurities. Don Hutton worked with Sondra Piedmonte, Rebecca Hunger and Don Tosh to create one of the longest running weanling halter and yearling Hunter In Hand and Lunge Line futurities in the country. The WNYAA Stallion Service Auction solicited stallion owners asking them to donate a breeding to their stallion. That breeding would be auctioned and the stud fees received from the auction created the purse. In return, the stallion owner and the purchaser (mare owner) can nominate one mare, and that resulting foal is eligible to participate in the weanling futurities.

WNYAA is very grateful for the support we have had over the years from these stallion owners, mare owners, and show exhibitors that have supported our efforts to breed and promote the beautiful Appaloosa horse.
